What is Molar Mass?

Molar Mass is the mass of one mole of a substance. Moles are the unit which is used to measure chemicals. One mole of any substance has 6E23 number of particles. Also, the atomic mass for all elements is equal is equal to their molar mass. Usually people round up or down to the nearest whole number except for in one chemical, Chlorine (Cl) which is calculated as 35.5.

Finding the Molar Mass.

To find the Molar Mass of any chemical, you simply calculate each individual Molar Mass of all the seperate chemicals in the compound, and add them all togethor. For example:H2O

Hydrogen (H)= 1

and there are 2 hydrogens so....

Hydgrogen (H)= 1 X 2= 2

then you calculate Oxygens molar mass

Oxygen (O)= 16 (rounds to 16)

then you simply add the two togethor and you will find the molar mass.

H20= 16+2= 18
